MVI started 2021 out strong with the January unveiling of an award earned late in the prior year from New World Report: 2020’s Best Smart Video Door Systems Provider in the US. While this was an incredible start for the year, we couldn’t have imagined it would only get better!

In November of 2021, we were named to New World Report’s 2021 Most Innovative Cost-Saving Building Development Solution for our affordable access control solutions. We never dreamed this would be followed less than a month later with a December 2021 announcement that we earned a place on Security Sales & Integrations coveted 2021 Top 30 Tech Innovators List.

Integrations that Matter for Our Customers and Dealers

MVI Systems has been working to establish partnerships and integrations that will improve user experience in every way, from streamlining work such as resident log upkeep to improving the delivery of our cloud-based services. Some of our biggest integrations in 2021 were:

ProDataKey (PDK): This integration offers 24/7 cloud access and automatic resident directory updates for mutual clients through one shared database.

Amazon Key: This is an in-building service enhancement for deliveries, allowing tenants and property managers to remotely grant access to Amazon delivery drivers. This security feature protects deliveries from being stolen and can audit and track all Amazon deliveries in the cloud.

Control By Web: This integration allows MVI access to control other products and uses, such as elevators or any electronic device.

What’s in Store for MVI in 2022?

In 2022, look for even more groundbreaking technologies that fuel our successful products, as well as an expanding book of integrations including Canada-based Hartmann Controls and more. We also have a completely redesigned user app that will be launching later this year. We’re overhauling the entire experience to make it more user-friendly and will be adding some amazing features that will allow users within the same building to interact with each other and build a stronger community.

What’s the Difference, and How Does it Help the Provider?

Think about how the TV and movie industry has changed. You used to have to go to the store to buy or rent your production of choice. These days, the majority of consumers have adopted one or more streaming services that they pay $7–$15 for per month. That fee gives them access to an endless stream of content at an exceptional value when compared with the structure of the past. The security industry is no different.

While a security company might very well be able to stay afloat and provide adequate customer satisfaction while sticking to up-front fees, adopting a monthly fee plan opens the door to advantages for both the provider and the customer. The provider now has a much more reliable stream of profit thanks to the Recurring Monthly Revenue (or RMR) they are receiving from each customer. This reliability allows for more accurate business planning in the near and distant future of the company.

So What’s In it for the Customer?

A large price point can be scary, even if it’s for a one-time payment. This alone could deter a prospective customer from buying into a service, even if they need it in the end. By charging a monthly fee, the barrier to entry is much lower for whoever is buying. Plenty of service providers across multiple industries offer this pay-as-you-go model, with additional account tiers and add-ons being offered to those willing to pay a bit more. 

An Experience, Not a Product

You may be thinking that in the end, most customers will end up paying more for the sum of their monthly fees than a one-time, up-front cost. This may be true, but they also know this, and they’re still okay with it. Why? Because people are willing to pay a little more for continued service, support, and increasing features. They expect an experience rather than a product.

What sounds better? An intercom security system that never has more than its out-of-the-box abilities, or one that is always connected and allows for continuous iteration and remote upgrades?

With MVI’s KeyCom® and its provided services, our dealers are able to constantly provide for their customers’ needs, while ensuring reliable RMR. This translates to stability for your business and satisfaction in your customers. This evolution of service structures wouldn’t be possible without the rapidly expanding abilities of the internet.

According to Software and Technology Award manager Laura Hunter, the program “celebrates the visionaries of digital technology, whether they develop software, manufacture cutting edge solutions, or distribute the latest technology to local or global clients.” Presented to companies whose products and services help organizations to run more smoothly and efficiently, the awards are based on innovation, business growth, longevity, online reputation, customer feedback, and business performance.

In 2020, we released an updated version of our KeyCom® interface that replaced words with icons and substituted touch-free features in place of standard, contact-based scanners, interactive displays, and keypads. The introduction of this contactless entry system proved timely in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The company was originally founded with the knowledge that 86% of millennial renters in the US metropolitan areas are willing to pay up to 20% more to live in smart buildings,” said CEO Samuel Taub. “MVI’s initial products addressed building security & conveniences. Since then, we’ve been adding increasingly sophisticated technology to our smart video door systems to enhance functionality and further improve the resident experience. Receiving the New World Report’s Software and Technology Award for Best Smart Video Door System is validation that we are progressing well toward that goal.”
